KUNZ: Bernarda

The peaceful death of Mrs. Bernarda Kunz (nee Knittig), age 89 years, of Humboldt and formerly of Annaheim, occurred on Friday, November 13, 2015. Bernarda was born on February 4, 1926 at home in the Annaheim district to Joseph and Anna (nee Schmidt) Knittig. She grew up on the farm and attended Annaheim School. Following her education, Bernarda worked at Aschenbrenner’s Store and helped on the family farm. On October 19, 1948 she married Ted Kunz in Annaheim. Bernarda and Ted farmed in the Annaheim area for 56 years. They worked side by side on the farm and raised their family there. They moved into the town of Annaheim for a number of years and then finally retired to Humboldt in 2008. Even though she was living in town, Bernarda was a farm girl at heart and took an active interest in the day to day operations of the family farm by phoning regularly to see how things were going. She loved growing a large vegetable garden each year, canning the fruits of her labours and cooking and baking for her family. Bernarda also enjoyed a good game of cards and making quilts. You could often find her cheering on her favourite teams, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Saskatchewan Roughriders, as well as watching a game of curling or the NFL on TV. For many years, she was an active member of St. Ann’s CWL and participated in all of their many activities. For Bernarda, her family was the most important part of her life. She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren when they were young and then kept up with their lives as they matured and grew to have families of their own, each addition bringing her new joy. Bernarda will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband of 68 years, Ted Kunz of Humboldt; their three children, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren: Glenn (Pat) Kunz of Annaheim and family, Corey Kunz (Olivia) and children Arthur and Greta of Saskatoon, Regan (Anna) Kunz and children Carly and William of Melfort, and Jeff (Kristen) Kunz and children Darcie, Bailey and Leah of Annaheim; Carol Kunz of Saskatoon; and Lorna (Greg) White of Saskatoon and family, Krista (Sterling) Fuchs, Danielle White and Haleigh White, all of Saskatoon; brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Wilfred Kunz, Celestine Kunz, Kathy Kunz and Harold Adams; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Anna Knittig; brother and sisters: Madeline (Bill) Reinhart, Rosemary (Clarence) Stangel, Lucy Adams, Roman Knittig, and Irene Kunz; and brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Marcella (Melvin) Reiter, Norbert Kunz and Alois Kunz. The Funeral Mass for Bernarda was held on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, celebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah and Fr. Rudolph Novecosky, OSB. Interment took place at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Annaheim. Memorial Donations in Bernarda’s memory may be made to St. Ann’s Cemetery Fund or St. Mary’s Villa Foundation. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home, Humboldt.
