HAUESLER: Bernard Sylvester

December 30, 1924 - September 7, 2013

The death of Mr. Bernard Sylvester Haeusler of Humboldt, SK, occurred at St. Mary's Villa, Humboldt, SK, on Saturday, September 7, 2013. He was 88 years of age. Bernard was born on December 30, 1924, in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Humboldt, to Martin and Josephine (nee Strueby) Haeusler. He was raised in the Marysburg area and attended Blume School at Marysburg. Following his education, Bernard was employed at a logging camp. In 1946, he began a 20-year career working for the R.M. of St. Peter's in Annaheim, SK, as a heavy equipment operator. On September 3, 1951, Bernard married Ida Richels of St. Gregor, SK, in Vancouver, BC. Six children, two sons and four daughters, were born to them. In addition to working for the R.M., Bernard and was a grain and cattle farmer, an operation he ran side-by-side with Ida. He loved tending to the cattle and taking his dogs for rides in the truck. Bernard and Ida retired from farming in 2006. In his early years, Bernard was an avid sports fan and enjoyed baseball and broomball. He also coached the Burr Tigers hockey team for a number of years. The whole family enjoyed playing and watching various sports throughout the years, but chores and farm work had to be done first. In his later years, he enjoyed watching his kids and grandchildren take part in their sporting activities. Other favorite pastimes included playing cards, reading, and watching Saturday Night NHL. Bernard was probably best known for his sense of humor and love of playing practical jokes on people, especially his wife Ida. Bernard is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ida (nee Richels) Haeusler; two sons and four daughters: Larry (Marlene) Haeusler and family, Ryan (Eileen), Rhonda (Jamie), and Jodi (Chris); Yvonne (Terry) Saretsky and family, Kim (Kelly), and Tracey (Daniel); Joan (Brian) Jaeb and family, Jennifer and Dean; Kevin (Myrna) Haeusler and family Mikila and Landis; Elaine Haeusler (Henry) and son Lee; Bernice (Ralph) Myrheim and family, Bradly (Nicole), Brent (Gwen), Leanne, Branden, and Caine; 18 great-grandchildren; four brothers: Marcellus Haeusler, Clarence Haeusler, George (Evelyn) Haeusler, and Wilfred (Della) Haeusler; three sisters: Lidvina Cox, Viola Lauchbaum, and Rosella (Mel) Hamel; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws of the Richels family.
