The passing of Benjamin “Benjy” Strueby of Humboldt, SK, occurred on Sunday, August 2, 2015, at the age of 88 years. Benjy was born to Frank and Pauline (nee Bauml) Strueby on May 26, 1927. He was raised in Moseley, SK and attended St. Henry’s School and Blume School in the Marysburg area. After completing his education, Benjy worked on several local farms and worked as a brush cutter, until he started a lengthy career as a journeyman plumber with Angelstad Brothers. He ended his career in the maintenance department at St. Mary’s Villa. He was hard working, well-respected and considered to be a mentor to those he worked with. Sports were a great passion for the Strueby family and Benjy played hockey and baseball for many years. As a defenceman and pitcher, he proved to be a tough, competitive opponent! In 1961, Ben married the love of his life, Henrietta Nakoneshny. Together they had three girls, Kelly, Penelope and Carrie. Benjy enjoyed lively family gatherings filled with stories, laughter and music. He was meticulous with his yard and his Ford vehicles. He enjoyed car rides, always with a bottle of Pepsi in his hand. Benjy was a life-long supporter of the Humboldt Broncos and Marysburg Royals. In his retirement years, he enjoyed going for walks and taking delight in nature and all of God’s earthly creations.
