Ben Meckelborg, age 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at St. Ann’s Home in Saskatoon from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Ben is survived by his four children Mona, Amy, Duane (Nima) and Vernon (Noreen); grandchildren Noelle, Diane (Ryan), Jasper, Joe, Norah, Theo, Samantha (Colin) and Chelsea; and great-grandchildren Addison, Oliver, Blake, Emersyn and Naomi. Ben is also survived by his brothers Al, Hal (Judy) and Ray (Brigitte); sister Joanne (Bert) Andersson; sisters-in-law Dolores and Margaret; and long time friend, Carol Scott. He was predeceased by his parents Bernard and Johanna; brothers Alfred, Otto (both in childhood), Wally and John; his first wife Diane (Ranger); his second wife Mildred (Patterson); sister-in-law Kitty; nephew Neil Meckelborg; and son-in-law Darrel Kuzub. Ben was born on November 23, 1930 to Bernard and Johanna (Klinker) Meckelborg near St. Gregor, SK. The first of nine children, he spent his early years working on the family farm. At the age of 21 he left home settling in the Kindersley district until the death of Diane at which time he moved to Prince Albert and eventually settled in Saskatoon. He spent most of his adult life working in the trucking industry. The family wishes to thank Dr. Tymchak, the nurses and the staff of St Ann’s Home for their compassion and care provided to Ben over the past five years. The Vigil for Ben was held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at St. Ann’s Chapel in Saskatoon. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 26 at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church in Saskatoon with Rev. Monsignor Ray Senger as Celebrant. The Rite of Committal took place at St. Gregor Parish Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Ann`s Senior Citizens Village.
