STAUBER: Annie Mary

The death of Mrs. Annie Mary (nee Schwingenschloegl) Stauber of Aspen Manor, Bethany Pioneer Village, Middle Lake, SK, (and formerly of Pilger and Humboldt), occurred at her residence on Sunday, March 16, 2014. She was 100 years of age. Annie, the ninth of 13 children, was born to George and Frances (nee Wachter) Schwingenschloegl at home on their farm in the Fulda district. She grew up there and attended school at Fulda. On October 30, 1935, Annie married Frank Stauber at Assumption R.C. Church at Marysburg. They resided on the Stauber homestead farm beside St. Bernard's R.C. Church east of Pilger where they raised their family of four children, Gerald, Archie, David and Colleen. In 1966, they moved into the town of Pilger and lived there until Frank's death on June 6, 1998. Annie then moved to the Harry Ford Centre in Humboldt. In 2000, another move was made to Bethany Pioneer Village. Initially, she resided at Birch Manor and four years later she became a resident of Aspen Manor, her home until the present. Annie's life as a farm wife meant long hours preparing all meals from scratch. One of her frequent specialties to make for Sunday dinner was fried chicken, potatoes, gravy, veggies, and of course, Jello with fruit cocktail for dessert. The birthday cakes were always poppy seed chiffon. Annie's cooking and baking skills were second-to-none. As Frank's parents aged and could not stay alone, Frank, Annie and the children moved in with them to provide on-going care for many years. Annie also helped with the farm work, especially picking stones, milking cows, and butchering. She also planted and harvested a large garden, both while living on the farm and in town. Annie was very proud of her beautiful flower beds in town. For about 10 years, Annie worked as a janitor in Pilger. She was also a member of the Ladies Aide and C.W.L. Her favorite leisure activity was playing cards, particularly Solo, Smear and, in later years, Crazy Queens. She also loved bingo and went every time she had a chance. In addition, Annie derived great pleasure from embroidering and her descendants have many pillow cases and tea towels as a remembrance. Annie was blessed with a very fulfilling life, took many happy memories with her, and left just as many behind. Her family can attribute her extra years to the wonderful care she received at Aspen Manor. Annie will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her four children, nine grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren: GERALD(Dorothy) Stauber of Humboldt, SK, and family, Rhonda(Myles) Hemm and their children Tyler and Jessica(fiancé Trevor Kurja), Maureen(Arnold) Venne and their children Corey and Dillon, and Kevin(Amber) Stauber and their children Jayde, Ethan and Joseph; ARCHIE [Fr. Bernard] Stauber of Humboldt, SK; DAVID(Judy) Stauber of Agassiz, BC, and family, Chris Stauber and son Nicholas, Brad Stauber and son Kayden, and Jill Stauber and daughter Jenna; and COLLEEN(Steve) Harris of Calgary, AB, and family, Amanda(Jory) McMillan and their children Tobias and Veronica, Susan(Tim) Huitema and their children Matthew, Zachary and Olivia, and Daniel(Lauren) Harris and their children Isla and Asali; one sister, Susie Berube of Makwa, SK; by numerous nieces and nephews of the Schwingenschloegl and Stauber families; and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Stauber; parents, George and Frances (nee Wachter) Schwingenschloegl; seven brothers: George, Joseph, Carl, John, Andrew, Leo and Raymond; and by four sisters: Mary, Julia, Veronica and Frances. The Funeral Mass was offered at Holy Trinity R.C. Church, Pilger, on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., concelebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah, Fr. Bernard Stauber, Fr. Daniel Muyres OSB, Fr. Lawrence DeMong, OSB, and Msgr. Matthew Tuffuor-Amoah. Others taking part were: Rhonda Hemm, crossbearer; Caitlyn and Carson Pitzel and Laird Pomedli, altar servers; David Stauber and Daniel Harris, scripture readers; David Stauber, intentions; Gerald Stauber and Colleen Harris, giftbearers; Erna Paydli and Gloria Schlitz, memorial table attendants; and Rhonda Baker and Luella Bregenser, music ministry. An honor guard was formed by members of the C.W.L. Honorary pallbearers were "all those who shared in Annie's life". Active pallbearers were Maureen Venne, Amanda McMillan, Susan Huitema, Kevin Stauber, Brad Stauber and Daniel Harris. Interment followed at St. Bernard's R.C. Cemetery in the Pilger district. Memorial donations may be directed to either the St. Bernard's R.C. Cemetery Fund or to Bethany Pioneer Village. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
