SMITH: Anne Mary February 6, 1914 – January 17, 2016 Mrs. Anne Mary (nee Saretsky) Smith of St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, SK, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Humboldt District Hospital. She was 101 years of age.

Mrs. Anne Mary (nee Saretsky) Smith of St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, SK, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016, at Humboldt District Hospital. She was 101 years of age. Anne, the second of 13 children, wasÌý born on Friday, February 6, 1914, to Alex and Anna (nee Gursky) Saretsky at home on their farm near Burr, SK, where she was raised. On Tuesday, November 23, 1937, Anne married Vern Smith. They resided in Burr where they raised their five children while operating their general store and farm. In 1967, they relocated to Humboldt where Anne enjoyed many years of employment in the dietary department of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. Anne loved all things related to family, music, gardening, sewing, curling, and her Catholic faith. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her three daughters, two daughters-in-law, and ten grandchildren: Sr. Donna Smith, OSU; Carole (Merv) Johnson and family, Lana (James) Tensen, Donna Johnson (Colin Young), and Susan Johnson (Mike Clark); Mary Lou (Ross) Rackel and family, Kurt (Linda) Rackel, and Rebecca (Jackson) Meston; Annette Smith and family, Darren Smith, Todd (Yvonne) Smith, Jason (Liz) Smith, and Robert (Nicole) Smith; and Yvonne Smith and son Donahue (Cindy) Smith; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Felix (Lorraine) Saretsky; sister, Joan Pritchard; brothers-in-law: Maurice Vinet and Leonard Joa; sisters-in-law: Yvonne Saretsky, Barbara Saretsky, Veronica Saretsky, and Louise Phillips; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Vern Smith; two sons: Gordon Smith and Garry Smith; granddaughter Renee Smith; five sisters and five brothers: Madeline (Homer) Nesbitt, Cecilia (Leo) Blanch, George Saretsky, Jacob (Mary) Saretsky, Agnes Vinet, Emil Saretsky, Rudy Saretsky (in infancy), Rudy Saretsky, Lenore (Ralph) Neis, and Mildred (Frank) Klassen; and by in-laws: Mary (Joe) Puetz, Christian (Elizabeth) Schmidtz, Albert (Edna) Schmidtz, Rose Joa, August Phillips, and Ray Pritchard. The Prayer Service for Anne was held at St. Augustine R.C. Church, Humboldt, on Friday, January 22, 2016, at 7:00 p.m., led by Sr. Alexis Taphorn, OSU. Scripture readers were Alexa Young and Dolores Hinz, and the eulogy was delivered by Mary Lou Rackel. Music ministry was provided by organist Dolores Hinz. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine R.C. Church on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., concelebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah, Fr. Cosmas Epifano, OSB, Abbot Peter Novecosky, OSB, Fr. Daniel Muyres, OSB, and Fr. Paul Paproski, OSB. Others taking part were: Sean Tensen, cross bearer; Lana Tensen and Donna Johnson, scripture readers; Susan Johnson, intentions; Sr. Donna Smith, OSU, Carole Johnson and Mary Lou Rackel, gift bearers; Joanne and Murray Phillips, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was provided by organist Dolores Hinz and the Saretsky family. An honor guard was formed by members of the C.W.L. Pallbearers were Darren, Jason, Todd, Robert and Donny Smith and Kurt Rackel. Interment followed at St. Augustine R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either the St. Mary’s Villa Foundation or the St. Augustine Parish Centre. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
