REINEKE: Alvin

November 19, 1924 – November 29, 2015

The death of Mr. Alvin Reineke of St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, SK, occurred at his residence in the early morning of Sunday, November 29, 2015. He was 91 years of age, and the last surviving member of his generation. Alvin was born on November 19, 1924, to Henry and Anna (nee Grunsky) Reineke at home on their farm northwest of Humboldt, where he was raised and spent the next 90 years of his life. After completing his Grade 4 education at Gertrude School, he worked full-time on the farm. Alvin not only enjoyed raising livestock and farming the land – he was passionate about it. Everything around the farm was built with his own hands and his natural mechanical ability was very useful in keeping all the machinery working properly. Alvin was totally dedicated to the farm and took great pride in everything he did, including keeping the home and yard he and his brother Joe shared very well maintained. The two brothers enjoyed each other’s company and Sundays were often spent going for drives to attend Mass at various churches and touring around the province. Never one to be idle, in recent years, Alvin acquired an interest in painting ornaments and derived a great deal of pleasure from that. Any spare time he had was spent with his family and friends, who have been truly blessed by his genuine and caring personality. Even after Joe passed away in May 2013, Alvin continued to reside on his beloved farm until January 2015, when he moved into St. Mary’s Villa. Alvin is survived by five nephews: Gerald (Jean) Dumontier, Francis (Cecilia) Dumontier, David (Cheryl) Messier, Dennis (Margaret) Dumontier, and Larry (Vivian) Strome; and by four nieces: Linda (Jim) Quinn, Patricia (Nunz) Fortugno, Rose (Leonard) Arcand, and Laurie (Dudley) Warford. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Anna (nee Grunsky) Reineke; three sisters: Sr. Annie Reineke, OSE, Gertrude Dumontier, Agnes Messier, and Rita Strome; and by two brothers: Henry Reineke (in infancy), and Joseph “Joe” Reineke. The Prayer Service for Alvin was held at Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, at 7:30 p.m., led by Janice Dobmeier and organist Dolores Hinz. Scripture readers were Nicole Dumontier and Shelby Warford, and words of remembrance were delivered by Laurie Warford. The Funeral Mass was offered at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church, Humboldt, on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Fr. Ephraim Mensah. Others taking part were: Ed Brockmeyer, crossbearer; Gabriel Dumontier and Colten Warford, scripture readers; Emily Dumontier, intentions; Linda Quinn and Taryn Warford, giftbearers; Margaret Dumontier and Chelsea Dumontier, communion ministers; Rose Arcand and Patricia Fortugno, memorial table attendants. Music ministry was provided by director, Loretta Schugmann, organist Marie Aubin, and the St. Augustine Parish Funeral Choir. Honorary pallbearers were “all those who shared in Alvin’s life”. Active pallbearers were Francis Dumontier, Dennis Dumontier, Dudley Warford, David Messier, Larry Strome, and Leonard Arcand. Interment followed at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to either St. Augustine Parish or the St. Mary’s Villa Foundation. Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel, Humboldt, SK.
