LOWE - Alice Louise (Strome) Lowe passed away in the Watson Lodge on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at the age of 97 years and eleven months. Alice was born on March 27, 1913 and lived with her parents and 8 siblings near Greenside. Her parents were Ezra and Louise Strome. She married Ross Lowe in April 1939 and farmed at Englefeld until 1948 when they purchased a farm just east of Watson. They moved once more to a farm near Quill Lake in 1952 and farmed there until they retired in 1978 and returned to Watson. Alice was active in Homemakers/Women's Institute, spent many hours quilting and spending time with friends and family at the Seniors' Centre. After Ross's passing in 1980, Murray became her chief "go-for" man and repair man, making frequent trips to blow snow or do odd jobs for her. When Alice was 79, she moved to Outlook to live closer to her daughter Jean. She spent many happy, hilarious and grubby days helping at the market garden and taking care of the sales shop. While in Outlook, Alice made many new friends, they still speak of her greeting them at the Market Garden. Alice and Jean did many fun things together in those five glorious years she spent in the High Rise in Outlook. Off to the city every weekend, just because they could, messing in the greenhouses and garden in some of the most awful looking work clothes Jean supplied, bagging veggies for Farmers' Market, pruning tomatoes, kibitzing with all the young employees who worked with her, teasing and being teased in return about getting all the "cushie" jobs. They even went to Winnipeg to baby sit the first great granddaughter, Heather, while her mom, Diana Mae, was off to do a project. She fondly remembered Heather and Gwen until she became too frail in her health. At the age of 85, her health started failing and in 2000 she moved into the Watson Lodge and spent the last of her years there. Alice will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her two children, one granddaughter and two great granddaughters: Murray (Gail) Gail Lowe of Tisdale; Jean (Bill) King of Outlook and family, Diana Mae (Gord) Boychuk of Balmoral, MB and daughters, Heather Jean and Gwendolyn Marie, two sisters-in-law Hazel Strome of Saskatoon and Helen Strome of Vancouver; and numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was predeceased by her parents, Ezra and Louise Strome; husband, Ross Lowe in November 1980. Alice will always be loved and forever remembered. A Funeral Service was held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from Trinity United Church Watson officiated by, Rev. Al Hingley.
