We'll believe the 'significant warming trend' when we see it

The extreme cold warning promises us a short-lived warming trend on Sunday

A short warming trend is forecast for Sunday.

SASKATCHEWAN — The extreme cold warning continues for most of Saskatchewan except the very far north.

The warning promises us a “significant warming trend” on Sunday, although it seems some will be more significant than others, and all will be short-lived as temperatures begin dropping again Monday.

The Battlefords-Unity area is looking at a high of -5 C on Sunday, according to Environment Canada. Nearby Saskatoon's forecast is for -7, while Humboldt's is -10. Significant, yes, compared to -30.

Oulook is getting a balmy forecast of -4 for Sunday while Yorkton's is only up to -14, as is the Kamsack-Canora-Preeceville area's.

Estevan and Moose Jaw, along with Weyburn, can expect their warming trends to go up to -4 as well while Regina is looking at -6.

Assiniboia and Carlyle areas are forecast to hit -4 as well.

Closer to Alberta, the Maple Creek area is looking at -3.

Everything's warmer in Alberta, of course, (where the entire province is under an extreme cold warning) with Medicine Hat's “significant warming trend” on Sunday predicted to be -1 C. It's expected temperatures will begin to warm Friday evening along the foothills bringing an end to the extreme cold for those areas. Temperatures will continue to warm from west to east on Saturday.

What moves through Alberta often ends up here in Saskatchewan.
