Two accused heading to trial facing charges in Jeremy Ernest death

BATTLEFORD - Two more accused will be heading to trial facing charges in the death of Jeremy Ernest two years ago.

Hannah Durocher, of Eagles Lake, and Tyson Lasas, of Waterhen Lake First Nation, are both charged with second-degree murder in the case.

They are next scheduled for pre-trial conferences on Aug. 16 at the Court of King's Bench in Battleford. The dates for their trials are still to be determined.

Trevor Alexander, 33, of Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation, is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on Sept. 9, after pleading guilty to manslaughter and a separate charge of aggravated assault on July 31. 

Tasha Opikokew, of Battleford, was previously sentenced to 365 days in custody, less credit for time served, after pleading guilty to accessory after the fact on May 12, 2023. 

Meadow Lake RCMP previously reported that Ernest, 36, died on Waterhen Lake First Nation on Nov. 12, 2022. Police and paramedics had been called to a home at about 4:30 a.m. and found Ernest injured. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
