Update: Teen who was tipped from canoe found deceased.

HELENE LAKE - Update: On July 5 at approximately 5 p.m., the canoer who went missing on Helene Lake was located deceased by Saskatchewan RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team in the water near the area where he was last seen.

RCMP say his family has been notified and their thoughts are with them during this difficult time.

Unity RCMP and Glaslyn Fire and Rescue assisted with the investigation.

Original post: A search has begun for a team who was tipped out of a canoe on Helen Lake Tuesday evening.

Turtleford/Glaslyn RCMP say that on July 3 at approximately 9:30 p.m., they received a report of a missing canoer.

Investigation determined a canoe tipped near a boat launch on Helene Lake. One of the occupants, a teen boy, did not resurface.

Since receiving the report, Turtleford/Glaslyn RCMP has been searching for the boy with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft System and Underwater Recovery Team. Local fire and emergency medical services are also on scene assisting.

Residents in the area can expect an increased first response presence as the search continues.
