PARADISE HILL — A Paradise Hill man has been charged after the theft of copper wire from a work site in Frenchman Butte on Nov. 4.
The call came in about 4 a.m. Officers were able to video surveillance footage of the theft and they identified a suspect vehicle.
On Nov. 5 at approximately 7 a.m., Turtleford RCMP initiated a traffic stop in Paradise Hill after observing the suspect vehicle.
RCMP say the officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop immediately. It continued on, damaging a fence but later came to a stop and the driver, who was the lone occupant, fled on foot. Officers located and seized approximately 425 kilograms of copper wire in the truck.
Turtleford RCMP, with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services, located and arrested the suspect a short time later.
As a result of continued investigation, a 24-year-old man from Paradise Hill is charged with:
- one count, flight from police:
- one count, dangerous operation of motor vehicle causing bodily harm;
- one count, operation while prohibited;
- two counts, mischief under $5,000;
- two counts, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
He was also arrested on warrants from Turtleford RCMP for failing to attend court, mischief under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
