MAIDSTONE — Maidstone Minor Hockey raised an overwhelming number of donations for the food bank, doubling the amount they already had for families during the holiday season. Congratulations to minor hockey’s draw winners: Betty Wyatt and Jordan McMillan.

Congratulations to Marlene Carrier on winning $197 in the Legion Club Room's Chase the Ace draw on Dec. 12. No Ace of Spades was found so the jackpot climbed to over $5,500. This week, the clubroom is open Wednesday, Dec. 18 (wing night), Dec. 19 (draw night), Dec. 20 (early for lunch) and Dec. 21, then closed until Friday, Dec. 27.
Maidstone Museum and Chamber of Commerce thank everyone who joined in the festivities at Winter Fun Fest. Modern and antique decorations, seasonal music and lights, sliding hill, games, fire pit, tasty refreshments, money tree draw and fantastic fireworks made a merry afternoon of frolicking and visiting for all the children and adults. Scavenger hunt winners were: under age 6 Hannah and Mickaylan, age six to 10 Anna and Ledger, age 11 and older Dima and Matthew; adult Renee Donovan. The chamber's money tree draw was won by Kathy Utri. Thank you to the volunteers who put this event on for our community to enjoy.
Maidstone Senior Jets did their hometown proud, taking down Langham Vikings 11 to 4 last Saturday. The Jets would like to thank all the fans who participated in the Teddy Bear Toss when all the stuffies hit the ice following their first goal of the night by Dysen Rhinehart. Teddies were collected for Maidstone Food Bank, Big Brothers and Sisters and Lloydminster Border Paws. The next Senior Jets game is in Maidstone on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 8 p.m. MST versus Meota Combines.
The focus for the third week of Advent is joy. It was indeed a joyful morning at Grace Community Church when the Sunday School kids shared a wonderful story, “The Meaning of the Christmas Tree” on Dec. 15. They reminded us of the true meaning of Christmas with the wish for joy and peace for all.
Maidstone High School's entrepreneurship class held a sale at the school on Tuesday this week. Four groups of students offered their wares: Happy Tails (pet treats), Prairie Candle Co., Small Town Salsa and The Bubble Bunch (soaps). Amazing products by amazing students. Over 70 people enjoyed Maidstone Legion's Christmas dinner catered by Kin Club Maidstone. Some great cooks there. It was one of the best meals ever. Following supper, the children waited with great anticipation for Santa and he came, taking time to talk with them as a group and then chat individually as he handed out a gift to each of them. It was a delightful evening.
