Maidstone and District News: Festival of Trees brightens the season

Midnight Madness up next on Dec. 1.

MAIDSTONE — Maidstone Community Health Committee is to be commended for the Festival of Trees. From the decorations to setting up displays for all the items, to photos with Santa (and some without), to finalizing bids and distributing items, a tremendous amount of work was done by some special people. Thank you for your devotion to the health and well-being of our community.

The Festival of Trees door prize winner of a decorative winter urn was Melissa Klisowski. The committee is grateful for everyone’s continued support throughout the week and wishes a joyous season to all. Thanks to all who supported the Santa nights with donations totalling $650 to go to Maidstone Food Bank. Thank you also from Maidstone Guiding for purchasing Girl Guide cookies, hot chocolate and baking on Thursday evening.

If you didn’t fill in an ornament for the memory tree during the festival, the tree is now inside the entrance to the Health Complex. Stop by and support a worthy cause while allowing all of us to remember your departed loved ones during the Christmas season.

Congratulations, Stephen and Christine Myer and family. Standard Hill Livestock was awarded Reserve Grand Champion Pen of Angus Bulls at Canadian Western Agribition Nov. 25 in Regina. Winning out of a field of 20 bull pens from across western Canada, these three bulls were described as the best-footed bulls in the competition. They will be sold March 8 at the Myer farm north of Maidstone in their annual sale which is always held on the second Friday in March.

Maidstone Senior Jets played in Battleford Nov. 24, losing to Battleford Beaver Blues 11 to 5. The next game is away on Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. against the Turtleford Tigers and then they’re back home Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. MST versus Glaslyn North Stars.
