BORDEN — The Borden Friendship Club held their annual Christmas dinner on Dec. 11, in the Borden Community Centre, with 80 out to enjoy a turkey dinner with all the trimmings catered to by the Langham United Church.
President Sandra Long welcomed everyone and Rev. Carr give the blessing. Sparkle candles were placed in the dessert trifles and lit while everyone sang Happy Birthday to the November celebrants — Tom Hrenkiw, Kathy Young, Garry Whitt, Jan Spark, Donna Johnson, Delmar Hamm, Brenda Tumbach and Bev Assman.
Ruben Rempel read the story of Christ’s birth then introduced the entertainers for the evening – Henry Braun and Chris Harms, who sang many familiar Christmas songs and carols. Henry and Chris related a story about The Rich Family in Our Church.
On Dec. 11, at the Borden Health Centre, Amanda Rempel gave a talk on types of dementia. She gave facts, stages, symptoms, behavioural changes and information on Alzheimer's which is a form of dementia, along with vascular dementia, mixed dementia, Lewy Body dementia, aphasia , semantic, logopenic, younger dementia and rare forms of dementia. Each person present was given handouts to take home and read. The next health talk will be on Jan. 23 at 1:30 p.m. on advance care planning.
On Dec. 14, Santa arrived outside the Borden Co-op grocery store. He handed out candy bags to all the children and inside the store you could partake of hot chocolate and a variety of cookies or squares and enter your name for draws. Directors Brett Larsen and Glenn Sutherland presented gifts to retired directors Darrell Wiebe and Diane Tracksell with Darrell receiving a large framed photo of the Borden Bridge by Eye Spy Photography (Tara B) and Diane getting a gift certificate for a family photo at Eye Spy Photography. Over at the co-op hardware store there were different kinds of liquor that you could sample.
The evening of Dec. 15, St. John’s Anglican church held a service of lessons and carols, with Linda Hosegood organist and Pamela Pidwerbesky pianist. They played a duet before the service and a special duet medley to end the service.
Rev. Carr welcomed everyone and read A Bidding for Christmas followed by scripture readings and prayers read by Eleanor Walton, Sharon Assman, Jean Brooke, Brenda Tumbach, Doug Hacking, Sandra Long, Carrie Harkness, Gertrude Maxwell and Bill Hosegood. Rev. Carr read the Prayers of the Community. Everyone was invited for cookies and hot chocolate in the Lower Hall.
