BATTLEFORD —The Town of Battleford has again entered into an arena advertisement agreement with the AAA Sharks for the 2023-24 season, with a higher cost of $400, up from $350 in the 2022-23 year. The agreement, traditionally done as a fundraiser for both the female hockey team and the town, was approved by council at their July 17 meeting.
“We do this every year with the Sharks AAA team, said Jordan Schechtel, the town’s parks and recreation manager.
The profits, Schechtel said, could be upwards of $22,000 and be split equally between the town and the hockey team if all 57 advertisement spots sell like they did last year.
The town would make $11,400 in the best-case scenario.
Under the agreement, the AAA Sharks are required to carry out all administrative duties associated with selling the ads, and the town maintains and replaces the ads. Councillor George inquired about how often an ad needs to be fixed, and Schechtel estimated anywhere from five to 10times a year at a cost of $150 for each instance.
"I think it’s a great deal, I’m glad they keep coming back for the ask,” Councillor Doug Laing noted before it passed council.
