Many people have been plagued with ticks. The bugs like to feed on humans and pets, so take care while out in wooded or grassy areas.

Many out-of-control fires are burning in many parts of Canada. It has resulted in smoky conditions that make it difficult for some to be outdoors. We do need good rain and wind to move the smoke along. Many homes have been evacuated ahead of the fires. Some homes have been lost.

Spring seeding is complete. Farmers are now busy with spraying operations. So far, rainfall has been spotty.

A big thank you to Becky Doig for her recent letter to the editor on the loss of some of our country correspondents. Just too bad no one seems to be interested in taking over. Our readers who receive the Battlefords Regional News-Optimist first look for the country news. The local newspaper goes out to many homes and those people who have left their original communities are looking for news from home and find it good reading. Thank you to those who are still reporting. Just keep it up. Readers look for that type of news.
