HUDSON BAY - Two people have been charged after a stolen truck hit a police vehicle.
On Nov. 14, Hudson Bay RCMP determined a stolen truck was at a home on Albert Street in Hudson Bay.
Officers attended the residence and located the vehicle parked in the back yard.
When officers approached with emergency lights engaged, the truck started, accelerated and struck the front passenger side of the police vehicle. The damage to the police vehicle disabled it.
The suspects' vehicle then was reported to have struck the police vehicle again.
The occupants refused to exit the vehicle and continued to try to flee in it.
Officers broke one of the vehicle’s windows to gain entrance to the car.
The driver continued efforts to flee. Officers deployed a conducted energy device and arrested him. They also arrested the passenger.
The responding officers were not injured.
Investigation determined the vehicle had been reported as stolen in Nipawin on Nov. 2.
As a result of continued investigation, a 22-year-old man from Tisdale is charged with: possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000; assault police officers with a weapon; fail to stop for peace officer; operate a conveyance in a manner dangerous to the public; and resist arrest.
A 30-year-old woman from Tisdale is charged with: possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000; and obstruct peace officer.
They both have been remanded into custody until their next appearance in Melfort Provincial Court on Nov. 18.
The investigation continues.
Hudson Bay RCMP have recovered a number of items from the vehicle, which they believe to be stolen. Officers are working to see if they’ve been reported as stolen from the Hudson Bay and surrounding detachment areas.
