Man facing charges after bear spray deployed toward police

On March 2 at approximately 1:55 p.m., Carrot River RCMP received a report of a male spraying bear mace inside a home on Red Earth Cree Nation.

RED EARTH CREE NATION - A male has been arrested after allegedly spraying bear mace toward officers.

On March 2 at approximately 1:55 p.m., Carrot River RCMP received a report of a male spraying bear mace inside a home on Red Earth Cree Nation.

Officers responded and located the male, who was inside the residence. Officers made verbal commands that the male was under arrest, instructing him to exit the house, but he did not comply. The male extended a can of bear mace outside a window, spraying it in the direction of officers. None of the responding officers were physically impacted by the bear mace. Officers later arrested the male at the scene.

A 25-year-old man, from Red Earth Cree Nation, is charged with:

  • one count, assault on police officer with a weapon/causing bodily harm;
  • one count, uttering threats against a person;
  • one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
  • one count, resists/obstruct peace officer; and
  • one count, mischief under $5,000.

The suspect was also arrested on his outstanding warrant from Carrot River RCMP. He was wanted in relation to an assault that occurred in November 2024.

He appeared in Melfort Provincial Court on March 3, 2025.
