It may have been a winless week in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for the Yorkton Terriers, but they did pick up two-points via overtime losses.
Yorkton sits with 45 points in the Viterra Division thanks to a record of 19-28-2-5, and are comfortably up a dozen points on basement dwelling Melville. Weyburn leads the Viterra with 77 points, with Estevan second with 61.
The one game the Terriers failed to secure a point from came Friday when Yorkton was in tough against the league’s top team the Battlefords North Stars.
Kailum Gervais gave the Terriers a 1-0 lead with the only goal of the first period, and it came early, only 2:57 into the contest.
The one-goal lead held until the 1:19 mark of the third period when Layne Young tied the contest for the home team.
Coby Downs gave the Stars their first lead of the game at 7:57 of the third, with Reed Delainey making it 3-1 at 15:19.
Corwin Stevely made it close scoring with Terrier netminder Jakob Severson on the bench in favour of an extra attacker. The goal came at 19:03 and would round out the scoring in the 3-2 loss for Yorkton.
Severson faced 30-shots in the Terrier nets taking the loss with Tyler Fuhr facing only 22 in the Stars net for the win.
A night later the Terriers would lose another one-goal decision, this time to the Klippers in Kindersley.
Sam Binfet opened the scoring for the home team 8:45 in, with Tanner Thompson connecting on the powerplay at 17:07 to give the home side a 2-0 lead headed to the second period.
Dexter Bricker scoring at 9:28, and Daniell Lange 30-seconds later in the second frame made it 4-0.
Tyler Baier finally put Yorkton on the board at 12:14, and Kevin Wolf would add a powerplay goal at 16:49 to make it 4-2 headed to the final 20-miuntes of play.
Corwin Stevely would use the man advantage to score at 11:01, and Jordan McCausland would complete the comeback for Yorkton with the tying goal at 17:29.
The game would remain tied through the last minutes of regulation, forcing a five-minute, four-on-four overtime which would settle nothing.
In the deciding shoot-out three Yorkton shooters would fail to score, while the Klippers netted the one goal they required for a 5-4 win.
Severson took the loss facing 41-shots in the Terrier net, while Nathan Hargrave earned the win stopping 35 for Kindersley.
Tuesday OT
Estevan visited the Farrell Agencies Arena, and the game started with a spirited offensive first period.
Cole Keenleyside gave the home side an early lead, potting a goal at 1:49, then adding a second at 12:43 to make it 2-0.
Keaton Longpre put the Bruins on the board at 13:07, before a powerplay marker by Terrier Corwin Stevely made out 3-1 at 15:29.
But Estevan was not done as Lynnden Pastachak found the twine with only two-ticks left on the clock in the first period to make it a 3-2 contest.
Tyler King would score the only goal of the second period. It came 15-seconds in, and knotted the score 3-3.
In the third the Terriers would pull ahead on a goal by Jordan McCausland 5:18 in, only to have Josh Rieger reply for the Bruins to again tie the score at 14:44.
The 4-4 tie would hold through the remainder of regulation time, sending the team to the five-minute, four-on-four extra frame.
Pastachak would end the contest in favour of Estevan with a goal at 3:40.
Daniel Wapple was in the Bruins net for the win facing 31-shots, while Jakob Severson took the loss in the Terrier nets, also facing 31.

Friday Melfort is scheduled to visit the Farrell Agencies Arena to take on the Terriers.
