The Yorkton RawTec Maulers have parted ways with head coach Dan Cross, choosing to look for a different head coach instead of renewing Cross’ two year contract that he had signed in the Spring of 2013.

“His (Dan Cross) contract was up at the end of the month so we had a decision to make on whether we would go forward with the same coach or we would make a change,” RawTec Mauler General Manager Garth Simms told Yorkton This Week. “So we’ve decided that we’re going to be entertaining the possibility of new coaches and entertaining resumes.”

The decision comes as a bit of a surprise as Cross, who took over in 2013 for then coach Jeff Odgers, coached the Maulers to a record of 35-41-9 over two seasons, getting Yorkton into the SMAAAHL playoffs in both the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons with very young teams.

However the RawTec Mauler Executive Management felt that the time had come for a change in leadership despite the work Cross put forth over the last two years. “Dan was as hard a working coach as we’ve ever had. He was always prepared at game time and he ran a good bench, ran a good practice,” said Simms of now former Mauler coach Dan Cross. “But going forward we’re going to have a young group, an exciting group of young guys and I think that we can improve upon where we were.

“We’re not going to be satisfied with just making the playoffs, I think we’ve got a talented group of kids coming and we’re hoping that we can be one of the elite teams in the league.”

Those interested in the vacant head coaching position can apply by contacting General Manager Garth Simms at (306)-641-6200. Deadline for resume submission is Tuesday, April 14, 2015.
