The Yorkton Terriers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League went on a three-game road trip this past weekend.
The team headed to La Ronge for two back-to-back games against the Ice Wolves on Friday and Saturday, before heading to Melfort on Sunday to face the Mustangs.
The Terriers had nothing but success in La Ronge as they came away with two wins. On Friday night, the final score of the game was 3-2.
Each period of the game saw a goal from the Terriers. In the first, Carson Welke put one in on a power play, bringing the score up 1-0. But the Ice Wolves would answer a few minutes later to tie it up. The first period ended tied at one.
In the second period, McKenzie Welke scored for the Terriers. But again, La Ronge got it back, bringing the score to a tie again.
The third period won it for the Terriers, when Jared Legien scored roughly half way through. La Ronge couldn’t return this one, so Yorkton took the win.
On Saturday, the Terriers brought a harder game to the ice and it showed on the scoreboard. The final score was 5-1 for the Terriers.
Goals were scored by Cole Keenleyside, Kaleb Bell, Dexter Robinson, Carson Welke and Jordan Hudson, who got his first goal of the season.
La Ronge’s only goal was scored in the third period.
Terriers’ new goalie Nathan Hargrave recorded both wins in La Ronge. He remains undefeated as a Terrier.
The Terriers’ five game winning streak came to an end on Sunday night in Melfort, when the Mustangs took the win by a score of 5-2.
Although it was a well-played game for Yorkton, they just couldn’t connect with the back of the net when they needed to.
The Terriers’ goals were scored by Tyler Baier and Jordan Ross.
The next action for the Terriers will be on Friday night at the Farrell Agencies Arena in Yorkton, when they face the Melville Millionaires at 7:30 p.m. This game also doubles at the sixth annual Teddy Bear Toss, so all fans are encouraged to bring a new or lightly used stuffed animal to the game to throw onto the ice when the Terriers score their first goal. All donations will go to the Salvation Army Christmas Cheer Program.
