There was plenty of interest in this year's Yorkton Farrell Agencies/Ottenbreit Sanitation Initiation Tournament held over the weekend at both local arenas, said Initiation Program (IP) director Ryan Hoffman.

"This tournament was filled up by Remembrance Day," he said just as Â鶹´«Ã½AVey and Wynyard were getting set to determine the 'A' side winner in the tournament Sunday afternoon.

"It was a really fun weekend."

There were also a number of teams that were turned down, he said.

"We could only take 16 teams."

Most of the tournament for players this young are quite smaller, he said.

"Sixteen teams is bigger than most."

Moosomin sent two teams, Roblin also sent two teams, Â鶹´«Ã½AVey, Wynyard, Langenburg, Esterhazy and Russell all sent one and the host Yorkton had all six of their teams playing.

On the 'A' side, Â鶹´«Ã½AVey advanced and played Wynyard. On the 'B' side, two Yorkton teams played (the Fritters and the Tim Hortons Terriers).

"We just ask them to work hard and have fun," says Hoffman of the players.

"It's good to have teams of that quality," he added of Â鶹´«Ã½AVey, who proved to be among the top teams overall.

He also added that the tournament got great sponsorship. The Wynyard Monarchs skated to a 5-4 win over Â鶹´«Ã½AVey in the 'A' final, with all the scoring done in the first two periods. In the battle of Yorkton, the Tim Hortons Terriers cruised to a 9-3 win over the Yorkton Fritters. Matthew Ronn and Grady Hoffman each scored three goals in the win.

Keenan Krasowski scored two goals and Liam Hoffman had a single. Colton Hubic, Garin Lammers and Brandon Spilchen scored for the Fritters.

In the 'C' side final, the Russell Rams skated to a 6-1 win over the Yorkton Smoothies, as Jye Zawatsky tallied the lone goal for the Smoothies and the 'D' side final saw the Roblin White team win 8-7 over the Esterhazy Flyers Blue team.
