Regan Seiferling, a defenseman for the Yorkton Terriers, was one of 22 players named to Canada West for the 2016 World Junior A Challenge.

Seiferling attended tryouts last year, but didn鈥檛 make the cut for the team. But this year, he did it.

The tournament kicked off on Sunday, Dec. 11 at the R.J. Lalonde Arena in Bonnybille, Alta. In their first game, Canada West faced the team from Switzerland, and won 6-2. Seiferling made two assists.

On Monday, Dec. 12, Canada West played Russia and fell 5-3. Seiferling came away from this game with another assist to his name.

Casey O鈥橞rien, the head coach and GM of the Yorkton Terriers, said he thinks it鈥檚 鈥榓wesome鈥 to have one of his players representing Canada.

鈥淔or our organization, we couldn鈥檛 be happier. It鈥檚 a big thing to not only have Regan, but also have our trainer there, Nathan Hollinger,鈥 he said. 鈥淚t kind of continues to show the success of us developing players here in Yorkton.鈥

The Terriers have had players play on Canada West in the World Junior A Challenge before, but that hasn鈥檛 been for several years.

鈥淔or us to get guys just to the camp is an honour. But for them to actually be one of the 22 guys in western Canada to be on the team鈥 it鈥檚 a big accomplishment for him.鈥

O鈥橞rien said he鈥檚 looking forward to having Seiferling back on his roster after Christmas, and he鈥檚 hoping to see some of his success rub off.
