The Yorkton RawTec Maulers continued their hot start to the 2015/16 SMAAAHL season, dismantling the visiting Swift Current Legionnaires in back-to-back games, first thumping Swift Current 10-2 on Saturday before handing them a 5-2 setback on Sunday.

The two wins give Yorkton a 6-1-1 record thru eight games so far, good enough for a share of the SMAAAHL lead with the Moose Jaw Generals (6-1-1) and Regina Pat Canadians (6-3-1) who also have 13 points.

Prince Albert (6-2-0) and Tisdale (5-2-2) sit fourth and fifth with 12 points each, while the Battlefords Stars (4-2-1), Notre Dame Hounds (3-3-1) and Saskatoon Contacts (3-5-1) round out the top eight with nine, seven and seven points respectively.

Swift Current (3-4-0) sits in ninth, while the Saskatoon Blazers (3-5-0) and Beardy鈥檚 Blackhawks (2-3-1) are 10th and 11th respectively. The Notre Dame Argos remain in the league cellar with a 0-7-0 record.

Double Digit Saturday

The RawTec Mauler scored four goals in the first period and three in each of the following two periods to obliterate the visiting Swift Current Legionnaires 10-2 on Saturday night at the Farrell Agencies Arena.

Tristyn DeRoose, Drayson Skulmoski, Keanan Sperling and Derrick Budz all scored in the first period, while Carson Miller found the back of the net twice in the second frame with Kaeden Taphorn also notching a goal to give the Maulers a 7-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Miller completed his first SMAAAHL hattrick in the third frame, while both Brett Kemp and Damian Bentz also scored to give Yorkton a 10-0 lead. Two late Swift Current goals, one each by Drieden Gauthier and Tyde Hutchinson, broke the Jordan Schmuland shutout bid, however it wasn鈥檛 enough to wipe the smiles off the faces of the RawTec Maulers as the Maulers won 10-2.

Schmuland stopped 21-of-23 Legionnaire shots for his fourth win of the season, while Caleb Lumbard shouldered the loss for Swift Current, stopping 8-of-12 Yorkton shots in the first period before giving way to Thomas Martineau for the remainder of the game. Martineau allowed six goals on 27 Yorkton shots in relief.

Sunday 鈥榃鈥

Both Yorkton and Swift Current were back at it less than 24 hours after the two teams skated to a rather one-sided 10-2 result.

This time things were slightly different, as the visiting Legionnaires played with plenty of heart and pride.

However that still wasn鈥檛 enough, as the home town Yorkton RawTec Maulers picked up their second win of the weekend, this time via 5-2 result.

Bentz, Miller and Kemp all scored in the second game of the weekend, while rookie Beau Stevenson and captain Carson Sass also found the back of the net in the win.

For the captain it was his first goal of the season; something head coach Graham Garrett was happy to see finally happen. 鈥淗e鈥檚 had some hard puckluck so far. He鈥檚 been missed on a few assists that he should have had and had the third assist in some situations that doesn鈥檛 get on the scoreboard,鈥 offered Garrett. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 not indicative of his play. He鈥檚 been steady for us, he鈥檚 been great on and off the ice doing what a captain needs to do and I was happy for him to get that goal and assist today.鈥

Alex Geddes picked up the win between the Mauler pipes turning aside 20-of-22 Swift Current shots while Lumbard picked up his second loss in as many days, stopping 26-of-31 Yorkton attempts.

The next action for the Yorkton RawTec Maulers (6-1-1) will be tonight in Notre Dame against the Hounds (3-3-1). The next home action will be this weekend when they host the Saskatoon Contacts (3-5-1) for the 鈥楶aint the Rink Pink鈥 weekend. Game time is set for 8:00p.m. on Saturday and 2:00p.m. on Sunday.

Saturday鈥檚 game is free for all to attend. People are asked to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer awareness.
