HUMBOLDT — Each year the crops extension specialists host a series of webinars that cover agronomic topics relevant for the upcoming growing season. We bring in our provincial specialists, Agri-ARM sites, external researchers, and other guest speakers to host engaging events that encourage conversation and questions from viewers.

This year we have eight exciting webinars for you to take part in. All our webinars will be recorded and available for viewing after, in case you need to go back and review information or want to share with a friend or coworker. Participants that join the live event will be eligible to earn CCA credits.

Grasshopper Management Going into 2024

Date: Tuesday, March 12, 2024

Time: 9:30 a.m. – 12 noon

This will be an in-depth webinar on all things grasshoppers. Bring your questions with you as we’ll have James Tansey, Provincial Insect/Vertebrate Specialist and John Gavloski, Entomologist with Manitoba Agriculture, with us to be technical experts. Covering everything from lifecycle, migration patterns, history of pesticide use on grasshoppers, to control tips for the 2024 growing season. Shannon Chant, Crops Extension Specialist, will introduce the grasshopper lifecycle.

Home Grown Research: Fertilizer Management

Date: Tuesday, March 19, 2024

This webinar series highlights research done at various Agriculture Applied Research Management (Agri-ARM) locations that conduct producer-directed research and demonstrations across Saskatchewan. Our webinar on Fertilizer Management will cover trials that encompass various fertilizer placements, sources and micronutrient use in different crops.

Home Grown Research: Alternative Cropping

Date: Thursday, March 21, 2024

Our Home Grown Research webinar series highlights research done at the various Agri-ARM sites throughout the province that conduct producer-directed research and demonstrations. Our webinar on Alternative Cropping will cover trials that incorporate cover cropping, intercropping, dry bean agronomy and the use of forages in cropping rotations.

Home Grown Research: Cereal Update

Date: Tuesday, March 26, 2024

Our Home Grown Research webinar series highlights research done at the various Agri-ARM sites throughout the province that conduct producer-directed research and demonstrations. Our Cereal Update webinar will cover trials on managing different barley varieties, plant growth regulators on cereals, seeding dates and rates of wheat, as well as various on-farm projects.

A Practical Approach to 4R Nutrient Management

Date: Wednesday, April 3, 2024

Time: 9 - 11 a.m.

This webinar focuses on how producers can use 4R Nutrient Management practically on their farm. We will hear from Blake Weiseth, Director of Research & Demonstration at Discovery Research Farm, on how to dial in the 4Rs of phosphorus with use of technology and Lyle Cowell, Senior Agronomist with Nutrien Canada Wholesale, who will discuss and clarify realistic 4R methods on the farm.

Soil Sampling Principles and Analysis Methods

Date: Thursday, April 4, 2024

Time: 9 - 11 a.m.

Join guest speakers Dr. Jeff Schoenau and Dr. Derek Peak with the University of Saskatchewan to discuss why soil sampling is an important practice to implement on farm and go over fundamentals when it comes to interpreting soil sample analysis reports. We will also review the basics of different methods of soil sample analysis that are available to agronomists and producers through various commercial platforms, so they understand how their results are being achieved.
