Unity's Agroplex breaks out in flames

Unity's Agroplex found ablaze, reports of no one in building.

UNITY-- Fire broke out in the early evening of Jan. 19 at the Unity Agroplex, located alongside Highway 14. Unity Fire Department and EMS crews were on scene as they worked to extinguish the flames.

Joan Sperle, one of the executives with the Unity Ag Society, said there was no one in the building when the fire broke out and that the call for emergency services had to come from someone driving by.

The Ag Society was appreciative of the quick action of the fire fighters, with Sperle adding "they are doing such a great job out here."

The Agroplex, which was built in 1991, was the second largest hall available to rent in the town of Unity and has become a favourite dance hall during rodeo weekend in early June each year.
