ASSINIBOIA - There were 14 members of the Assiniboia Fire Department who participated in vehicle extrication training at the fire training ground in Assiniboia, held October 20-21.
Training was provided by Mike Beamish from SeaHawk Services in association with their in-house trainer Nathan Rust.
This invaluable training was to enhance our vehicle extrication skills and create a better familiarity with the new extrication tools that the department received as part of the Transportation Rescue Extrication (TREX) Program. Through this program the department received approximately $70,000 worth of new extrication equipment at no cost to the department.
Chuck’s Collision and SGI donated the vehicles. Helland Bros Autobody and Chuck’s Collision provided towing of vehicles to the training grounds.
What is the TREX Program?
The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPCA), through one-time funding from SGI, has developed a Transportation Rescue Extrication (TREX) Program that offers training and equipment to Saskatchewan fire departments.
The program was developed in collaboration with the Saskatchewan Volunteer Fire Fighters Association (SVFFA), the Saskatchewan Association of Fire Chiefs (SAFC) and the Provincial Training Standard Committee.
The objective of the program is to:
• Enhance capacity for fire departments to respond to motor vehicle collisions (MVCs) through the provision of funded training and equipment.
• Ensure participating fire departments can maintain their response levels by having set program criteria.
• Provide the SPSA and SGI the ability to measure program success for a minimum of five years once each participating community enters the maintenance phase of the program.
