St Brieux celebrates sod turning of new 15-bed personal care home

Fundraising for the project began in 2016.

ST. BRIEUX – The official sod-turning of a new 15-person personal care home in St. Brieux was held on April 2.

Construction began for the new personal care home on March 13, with a timeline of completion in late fall 2024. Pauline Boyer, St. Brieux Manor Inc. chairperson, said the new home cost $3.3 million and startup costs were approximately $200,000. The new personal care home will be called the “Spirit of St. Brieux Manor” and be located at 213 2nd Avenue North.

Boyer said, “We became a non-profit charitable organization in 2011 and formally started fundraising for this project since 2016. We began this project in the hopes that it would bridge a gap in our healthcare, keep our vulnerable older adults in their community, open up housing for new workers and their families and to help grow our community.”

The board consists of community volunteers who saw a need.

“We do not have any partners, but we were very fortunate to have significant donations from the Bourgault Group, local businesses and generous individuals that live in the community and surrounding area,” said Boyer.

The board is a non-profit charitable organization made up of eight board members currently, along with others who have formed a fundraising group and a building coordinator to work with the contractor Zak’s Building Group out of Hague.

Boyer thanked the Town of St. Brieux, the province and the federal government representatives for being in attendance at the sod turning on April 2. Local business, Bourgault Industries, was thanked for their generous donation.

“Without this financial support, we wouldn’t have realized this project and wouldn’t be celebrating here today,” said Boyer.

Boyer said, “Our community is hopeful that this project will help keep our vulnerable older adults at home in their community where they can be cared for close to home. Our original goal was to bridge a healthcare gap, homecare availability is very limited, and this will open homes for new families and to help grow our community.  We are very hopeful that this project will bear fruits of our labour.”

Opening is slated for later this fall or in the new year.  The committee is still looking for donations toward building and start-up costs. If you would like to help, you can email [email protected] or 306-921-6602 or mail your donation along with name and address to St. Brieux Manor Inc. PO Box 149 St. Brieux, SK. S0K 3V0.
