It's been a year since I wrote, "I don't have words to describe Hamas's attack on Israel. Watching it unfold made me sick to my stomach and as angry as I have ever been. I'm heartbroken by the loss of innocent life and profoundly sad that Israel is left with only bitter choices."
As expected, the global discourse has devolved into a pattern of replacing hard questions with easier ones. Not only is this unproductive, it has sown toxic division. One year on, the treaties and accords required for a world where Israel's sovereignty is recognized, and Israelis and Palestinians peacefully coexist, seem as far away as ever.
I have no answers. Just hope. I am still heartbroken by the loss of innocent life and profoundly sad that Israel is left with only bitter choices. -s
