Elaine Esther Wheaton of Landis won the Outstanding Bachelor of Science Graduate award from the University of Saskatchewan.
Luseland’s Holy Trinity Lutheran Church hosted a gathering of Lutheran women from Wilkie, Lloydminister, Oyen, Alta., and Kerrobert.
The Unity Separate School girls’ volleyball team, coached by Walter Guzik and comprised of Terrilyn Dawn, Diana Maljan, Cheryl Van Den Bruel, Joanne Tak, Katherine Bulcke, Theresa Keller, Susan Wagner, Connie Boutin, Bernice Enger, Cindy Sander, Donnetta Volk, Melanie Herback, Michelle Eberle, Marena Yochim and Glenda Sopyc, won all seven round robin games and were declared elementary school volleyball champions.
The Wild Goose Hockey League was down to four teams for the season: Wilkie, Biggar, Leader and Kindersley. Dropping out were Unity and Eston.

Unity re-elected incumbents Don Robertson, Eileen Sword, Maynard Slater and Bill Solohub, along with newcomers Richard Briggs and Bryan Hammer, to town council.
Gus McMaster won the remaining seat on Wilkie town council.
The Unity Miners were looking forward to the season with the addition of former WHL player and SJHL All-Star Dustin Bru to the roster. Bru, a former Unity resident, counted as a local player. Veteran forward Tyler Gilbert predicted Bru would be among the top five scorers in the league.
A number of Wilkie area hockey players made the cut to be part of the Battleford Stars AAA midget team: Bobby Bachman, Russ Nielsen, twins Jared and Derek Keller and rookie Ricky Cey.
