SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo unveiled its latest attraction on Monday, June 5, as the Prairie Butterfly House welcomed visitors for the first time this summer.

With over 300 butterflies fluttering about, the facility promises a unique experience with new arrivals throughout the season, including stunning morphos and caligos species, according to Zoo Manager Jeff Mitchell.

To mark the grand opening, the Saskatoon Zoo Society organized educational activities and giveaways, treating visitors to reusable shopping bags, pins, pens, temporary tattoos, and more. Expressing gratitude for the project's success, Saskatoon Zoo Foundation CEO Dawn Woroniuk thanked all the contributors who made the exhibit possible.

"The Prairie Butterfly House not only enriches the zoo's educational and conservation programs but also provides a peaceful haven for guests of all ages," Woroniuk shared.

"We are delighted to showcase this new addition and anticipate making another major announcement at our annual ZOOGALA event on Friday, June 9."

Acknowledgments were extended to Prairies Economic Development Canada, Norplex Business Centre, the Hunter and Duval families, Ultravision Construction, One-mouse Graphic Design, Dutch Growers and Laser Impressions by the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo and Saskatoon Zoo Foundation for their crucial support in bringing the Prairie Butterfly House to life.

Highlighting the significance of investments in the tourism industry, PrairiesCan Minister Dan Vandal stated, "Our government's commitment to rebuild the sector and promote Canada's offerings are exemplified by the diverse experiences such as the new Prairie Butterfly House. This facility showcases the unique character of the Prairies while fostering job creation and an inclusive economy."

Inside the Prairie Butterfly House, guests can witness the graceful flight of butterflies as they freely roam, immersing themselves in the beauty and tranquillity of the surroundings.

However, the zoo reminds visitors to respect the safety and well-being of the butterflies by refraining from handling or removing them or any plants from the habitat.
