WEYBURN - Sweets & Treats Company is a new business created by the Entrepreneurship 30 class at Weyburn Comprehensive School. The business launched at their first board meeting on Thursday, and will operate until January of 2024.
It is a Junior Achievement Company that focuses on selling fudge and other small treats including chocolate-dipped pretzels, chocolate-covered popcorn, fudge pops and assorted trays.
The target market is highly diverse, which will assist the student company in maximizing sales. The students plan on targeting friends, family members, teachers, and the citizens of Weyburn. Since the product is not gender or age-based, it will be enjoyed by anyone.
In a statement from their first board meeting, they said, “We are different from other companies within the Weyburn area because of our signature fudge. The fudge is made from Calico Cottage products straight from New York, so be sure to place an order through our company. The two signature flavours of fudge are chocolate and maple; although basic, they cannot be beat.”
Research by the WCS students has shown that fudge will be their main profit source with the other products following not far behind.
The Junior Achievement company has a large group consisting of 26 employees.
They include Jeremy Symes, Franz Unger, Asher Knox, Isaiah Sanderson, Owen Istace, Silas Stein, Kaedee Schultz, Ryder Fellner, Vann Dennis, Mitchell Fister, Nicole Malana, Kaitlyn Demchynski, Kail Kater, Calder Brown, Sophia Jordens, Taya Schmidt, Jack Kradovill, Carter Gervais, Brasen Sim, Wylie Kopec, Jenna Knupp, Hudson Bourassa, Keaton Husband, Shayna Gosling and Ryanna Sidloski.
The mentors are Andria Brady, general manager of Community Futures Sunrise, and Monica Osborn, manager of the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce, along with business teacher Margot Arnold.
“This will help to make sure that all orders are completed on time and reach the customers when needed. Our company size will also make production and the completion of orders much more efficient,” they stated.
To launch the company, and purchase all the ingredients and supplies, each company member purchased a $20 share in the company.
Sweets & Treats Co. will offer excellent products to the community and provide unmatched customer satisfaction because of the dedication and collaboration of the team.
