CALGARY, Alta. – New president and CEO Katherine Emberly took her place at the helm of STARS today.
“I’m very excited and humbled to have a role at an organization where the work really matters and the stakes are extremely high,” said Emberly. “I am only the third CEO in the history of STARS after two very long tenured CEOs, so it’s a big change for the organization.”
Emberly’s appointment was announced in the spring following an extensive search by the volunteer board of directors. Prior to Emberly, the role was filled by Andrea Robertson who, after 12 years at STARS, announced her retirement last fall. STARS’ first CEO was co-founder, Dr. Greg Powell.
“STARS is an integral part of Western Canada’s health-care system, and I am so thrilled to be part of this beloved and life-saving charity,” said Emberly.
“Everything that donors, patients and partners love about, and expect from STARS will continue. Our biggest goal is for this to be a very stable transition that continues the important work our teams do in the community each day.”
Emberly spent the past 20 years with Shaw Communications, progressing through more senior roles until she spent the past three years as president of business. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Science, Harvard Business School Executive Education and the Institute of Corporate Directors Program. She has been very involved in the community, including sitting on the board for Alberta Blue Cross, Calgary Economic Development, Viamo, Axis Connects and Ronald McDonald House Â鶹´«Ã½AVern Alberta.
