Brickspo 2023

MOOSE JAW — Brickspo is the annual mini-building-block extravaganza held at the Western Development Museum (WDM) in Moose Jaw and hosted by S.L.U.G. — the Saskatchewan LEGO Users Group, which draws creative minds from across the province and beyond.

Last year's Brickspo marked the event's triumphant return following the pandemic-induced hiatus that affected all public gatherings.

It was a big success, drawing nearly 3,000 visitors over two days to see all-original creations including recreated historical and fantastical battle scenes, a huge model of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, detailed dioramas, portraits, National Park monuments, and more. , and organizers anticipate that 2023's edition will be just as impressive.

Brickspo is at WDM Moose Jaw (50 Diefenbaker Drive) on July 29 and 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Brickspo also has special events, speakers, vendors, and a LEGO Yard Sale. A cash-only concession is available each day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Because original LEGO building requires the expression of imagination, and the creative combination of shapes, colours, patterns, themes, stories, and emotion, LEGO enthusiasts can legitimately lay claim to the title of 'artisan.' Creators must plan, design, and problem-solve. In addition, unlike flatter mediums, LEGO requires a spatial reasoning component akin to sculpturing.

With lighting, motors, and other animating elements available in the world of LEGO, hobbyists can take things even further if they wish.

Other highlights of Brickspo in the past have included building races with challenges like using one's non-dominant hand, track races with original builds, and other innovative entertainment.
