Guilty or not guilty? High school students participate in mock trial (photo gallery)

Nearly 40 students from the two Law 30 classes took part in the event on Nov. 24 at Court of King’s Bench in downtown Moose Jaw.

MOOSEJAWTODAY.COM — Law students from Central and A.E. Peacock collegiates received a taste of what an actual trial in a court room might be like after participating in a mock trial recently.

Nearly 40 students from the two Law 30 classes took part in the event on Nov. 24 at Court of King’s Bench in downtown Moose Jaw. Everyone had a role to play, whether it was as a jurist, defence counsel, Crown prosecutor, court clerk, sheriff or accused prisoner.

Actual court staff also participated in the mock trial and guided and advised students about their tasks and roles; the staff included two sheriffs, the court clerk, a Crown prosecutor, two defence counsels and judge the Hon. Justice Darrin Chow.

The alleged charges facing the accused included possessing a firearm without a licence and pointing a firearm, all in relation to a loud party in an apartment that became out of hand.

The Moose Jaw Express will have a more complete story later.
