REGINA — The Ministry of Social Services is allocating $1.25 million in funding as part of the 2023-24 budget to support the ongoing capital needs of facilities that serve the needs of persons with intellectual disabilities.

The ministry tracks capital requests related to the upgrade and repair of facilities run by third-party service organizations and works to assess and prioritize capital project proposals on an ongoing basis. This current funding has been prioritized to address safety, mobility and structural issues in facilities across the province.

Residential services or supportive housing provide a supportive living environment in the community for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Day programs provide a range of social, recreational, and supported employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities. For individuals with limited motor and sensory development, the program's emphasis is on development of living skills, socialization and recreation.

Employment and transitional services focus on individuals developing work and life skills to reach their potential level of independence or employment. In supported employment programs, job coaches assist individuals with the work they perform in a wage-based activity.
