TORONTO — Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:

Markets closed

Canadian markets are closed Monday this year because Canada Day lands on the Saturday. U.S. stock markets are open Monday, but will close early ahead of their July 4 holiday and remain closed on Tuesday for the actual holiday.

Home sales

The latest home sales numbers for some of Canada's biggest cities are expected this week. Vancouver and Calgary are expected to report June sales on Tuesday, while Toronto is expected to report its results on Thursday.

Trade numbers

Statistics Canada will report its international merchandise trade figures for May on Thursday. Canada's merchandise trade surplus increased to $1.9 billion in April, helped by higher exports of gold, oil and cars and light trucks.

Richelieu results

Richelieu Hardware Ltd. will report its second-quarter results on Thursday and hold a conference call with investors and financial analysts. The importer, manufacturer and distributor of specialty hardware will also discuss its outlook for the rest of the year.

Jobs numbers

Statistics Canada will release its latest snapshot of the job market in the country when it publishes its labour force survey for June on Friday. The key economic report comes ahead of the Bank of Canada's next interest rate decision on July 12.
