Fine results from poultry worker being injured by auger system

Company fined $46,000 for workplace injury.

A worksite incident occurred on July 10, 2021, near Regina Beach when a worker suffered a serious injury after their foot became entangled within a horizontal auger system.

REGINA — As a consequence of a worker being injured in an auger system, Pedigree Poultry Ltd. has been levied a fine of $32,857.14, with a surcharge of $13,142.86, for a total amount of $46,000.

The worksite incident occurred on July 10, 2021, near Regina Beach when a worker suffered a serious injury after their foot became entangled within a horizontal auger system.

Pedigree Poultry Ltd. pleaded guilty in Regina Provincial Court Jan. 2 to one violation of The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020. 

The company was fined for contravening clause 3-1 (a) of the regulations (being an employer, failing to provide and maintain plant, systems of work and working environments that ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work of the employer’s workers, resulting in a serious injury to a worker).
