Coming out on the top spot is poutine. A quintessential Canadian dish, poutine consists of french fries topped with cheese curds and smothered in rich gravy. It’s indulgent, delicious and a true Canadian comfort food. Shortly followed by bannock, a type of bread made from a simple mixture of flour, baking powder, salt and water, which is then fried or baked.

Named after the city of Nanaimo in British Columbia, Nanaimo bars came out third on the list. A layered dessert made with a crumb base, custard-flavoured butter icing, and a chocolate ganache topping. They're sweet, rich, and a staple in Canada Day celebrations.

A spokesperson from Chefs Plate said: “Whether you’re firing up the grill for a Canada Day BBQ, heading to the park for a picnic or gathering your loved ones for a dinner party, these signature Canadian dishes will take centre stage, paying homage to the flavours that define the nation.”
