Reporting on their year-end field trips, the Unity Girl Guides visited the Al Oeming Wildlife Farm near Edmonton, Alta., while the Luseland troop took in a number of sights in Victoria, B.C.

Denzil resident Rick Brown and North Battleford teacher Linda Clifford announced their intentions to seek the provincial Liberal nomination for the local constituency, after former MLA Cliff McIsaac was elected to the Canadian Parliament.

Unity town council asked the Department of Public Health to send a letter declaring the CNR right of way stockyards “a nuisance” and asking they be cleaned up.

Ila Hoddinote and Leone and Burton Inkster of Luseland attended a Royal Purple convention in Saskatoon.

In Wilkie, Norman Carter Elementary School welcomed new teachers Robin Bleier and Carolyn Kapiniak, while Carolyn Huber was starting a half-time position at St. George School. In the high school, Chris Kent was starting his teaching career.

Denzil principal Cecilia Leibel was happy to have her student enrolment remain above 60 students, and welcomed new students from Hong Kong and Vancouver.

Heidi Gartner of Macklin received the Lombard Royal Canadian Legion scholarship worth $5,000, before heading to the University of Alberta for her post-secondary studies.

Weather woes were plaguing farmers, with an August frost damaging some crops and an extended period of rain keeping them out of the fields.

Halves of grain-fed beef were advertised for $1.50 a pound.
