Alta. parents allegedly sexually, physically assaulted 6-week-old girl

LETHBRIDGE, ALTA. – The Lethbridge Police Service say they have received numerous messages from the community in support of the six-week-old baby girl who remains in hospital after she was allegedly sexually and physically abused by her parents.

Many have asked for an update on the infant’s condition and how the public can help her, say police. LPS said they are limited by privacy restrictions on what information can be disclosed, they can advise the infant remains in critical condition in Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary. She is receiving the highest level of care and all her needs are currently being met by her caregivers. 

Lethbridge police have charged a father and mother in connection with the assault and sexual assault of their six-week-old daughter. 

On Jan. 18, police were called to a north side home to check on the welfare of a six-week-old baby girl after receiving information she was being abused. Upon arrival officers located the baby in medical distress. Both the mother and father were present in the home. EMS subsequently transported the baby to hospital. Her injuries were found to be extensive and she is currently in critical condition. 

The police investigation determined the baby had been assaulted and sexually assaulted multiple times over the past six weeks. 

A 52-year-old man is charged with aggravated assault, sexual assault, sexual interference and failing to provide the necessaries of life. A 31-year-old woman is charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life. Following Judicial Interim Release hearings, both were remanded in custody until their next court appearance.
