SASKATOON - Christmas has me feeling extra Santa-mental. Believe yule me, Persephone Theatre’s production of Miracle on 34th Street will fill you with the spirit of the holidays and warm your heart.
It’s a glorious way to celebrate the 50th season of Saskatoon’s Persephone Theatre by sharing the magic of the season with this timeless classic.
Persephone announced on Dec. 4 that anticipation have been high for this production, and ticket sales were brisk enlisting them to extend the show from Dec. 4 – Dec. 29, six additional performances added.
Media in attendance were delighted to watch a scene featuring Santa, and the character Susan, on opening day. It’s a wonderfyule life, as evidenced by the actors’ participation in this Christmas classic.
The plays charm offers not only the colourful characters that help bring Valentine Davies' story to life but an animated little girl named Charlotte who shares the role of the little girl, whose faith in Santa is put to the test.
Seeing Hal Kerbes, who plays Kris Kringle, is magical because he truly looks like Santa himself. His portrayal of Kris Kringle is obviously as enjoyable to him as it is for the audience he is entertaining.
Charlotte, the 10-year-old girl playing a main character will celebrate her birthday during production. Her delightful animated responses gave clear indication she was excited for the show’s run to begin.
“It comes natural to me but I did have to miss a little bit of school, but I felt preparation was easy. Memorizing lines was the hardest part but everything else came naturally,” adds Charlotte.
The outgoing youngster affirms she likes attention and likes being around people which helped her feel comfortable on stage.
Charlotte affirmed her belief in Santa by recounting an experience she had a couple of years ago, so she loves being around an actor that gives the feeling of looking and sounding like Santa. The young actress epitomizes the famous movie quote, “Faith is believing in things when common sense tells you not to.”
Audience members will believe in the magic of the season when enjoying this live theatre performance of this classic holiday movie. Set design, costume design and the performers will take audience members back in time as they relive the magic of Christmas in this ageless tale.
The entire production feels like it exemplifies one of the themes of Christmas, doing a little something extra for someone. The show offers a big, warm piece of the golden age of Christmas movies, and there is something extra special about attending live theatre during the holidays. The element of tradition wrapped with heartwarming performances provides audience members a taste of comfort this Christmas.
