To rebuild, one must first destroy, and the Dairy Queen on Broadway was torn down on Monday, after severe flood damage earlier in the year made the building unsuitable to continue to be used. Owner Mark Butchko says that he is relieved to see it go down, as it means insurance has finally come through and the process of rebuilding can begin. He expects that construction will begin next March, and the new location to be open in September of 2011. Butchko also says that he hopes to use as much local labor and tradespeople as he can. “I believe that you’ve got to support local, if you want the city to grow you’ve got to spend the money in town,” Butchko says.
