Saskatoon waste disposal truck ignites causing about $235K in damage

SASKATOON – A waste disposal truck caught on fire about 11:09 a.m. on Wednesday, causing about $235,000 in damage. The vehicle is a total loss.

Two fire engines were dispatched to the scene. When firefighters arrived, the truck was fully engulfed in flames. The fire was brought under control at about 11:24 a.m.

A fire investigator was requested to attend and concluded a fire investigation. The fire originated in the hydraulic area behind the cab and the cause of the fire is accidental due to a mechanical failure.

The driver of the truck was able to get out of the cab safely before the fire entered the driver's compartment. No injuries to the occupant or firefighters occurred as a result of this fire.
