LLOYDMINSTER – Two Onion Lake residents were arrested and charged with having a home-made firearm following a traffic stop.
Roger Lameman, 42, and Geraldine Dillon, 52, both of Onion Lake Cree Nation, Sask., were charged with two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and two counts of breaching an undertaking.
The two were arrested by Lloydminster, Alta., RCMP while they were conducting proactive patrols on Highway 16 in Lloydminster, Sask. At about 8:50 p.m. on Feb. 14, officers had stopped a brown Chrysler 300 for a traffic infraction.
Their investigation determined that the driver of the vehicle was wanted on a traffic-related warrant and both Lameman and Dillon were on conditions not to communicate with each other or possess firearms.
During a search of the car, police found the home-made firearm and a set of nunchucks, which are dual sticks connected by a short metal chain or rope.
Lameman and Dillon appeared before a justice of the peace and were remanded in custody. They are scheduled to appear in Lloydminster, Sask., Provincial Court on Feb. 20.
