MEADOW LAKE – Two people from Ile a La Crosse who are charged with attempted murder and firearms offences after a man was shot at a home in Beauval last year are headed to trial.

The trial for 27-year-old Prosper Harry Daigenault, who also goes by Prosper Gardiner, and 26-year-old Clay Ahenakew, is scheduled to be held in Beauval Circuit Court on July 2.

Jaylena Lafleaur from Meadow Lake is also charged with attempted murder and is back in court on Jan. 17 to enter an election.

Their charges stem from an incident on May 27, 2023, after Beauval RCMP responded to a report of a shooting at a home in Beauval. A 20-year-old man was shot multiple times and sustained serious injuries.

Police gathered video surveillance and determined the three were in a black Chevrolet Equinox SUV that was seen at the home.

Beauval RCMP issued a public safety advisory in the area warning the public and encouraging residents to report sightings of the suspect vehicle.

About two hours later, police located the vehicle driving on Highway 155 towards Beauval. During a two-kilometre police pursuit, officers saw the occupants of the vehicle throw a large duffle bag from the window of the SUV.

They eventually forced the SUV to stop with the use of a spike belt on Highway 903. The occupants fled into the nearby bush.

It took about 12 hours and a combined effort from numerous police agencies but the three were arrested. Prince Albert RCMP General Investigation Section [GIS], Battlefords RCMP GIS, Saskatoon RCMP GIS, Saskatoon Police Service Air 1, North Battleford RCMP Police Dog Services, Beauval, Buffalo Narrows, Ile La Crosse and Dillon RCMP detachments searched for the suspects.

Ahenakew and Daigenault remain in custody. Lafleaur was granted bail in September 2023.
