Thieves nab wheelchairs, sports equipment in Regina

Stolen items worth "tens of thousands of dollars," say police.

REGINA – Specialized sports equipment for athlethes with disabilities were stolen from a trailer in Regina last week, and police are turning to the public to assist in their investigation.

On Sept. 5, a staff member with the Saskatchewan Wheelchair Sports Association was shocked to find a trailer housing several athletic items to be ajar; latch and lock broken.

"Further inspection by the employee revealed multiple pieces of equipment were missing from inside the trailer," said RPS in a media release. "Among the missing equipment – five sport wheelchairs, 12 rugby balls, 12 basketballs, 12 hockey sticks and two bags."

The estimated value of the sports equipment - specialized for atheletes with disabilities - is estimated in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Police believe the break-in and theft occurred sometime between Sept. 3 and 5, with the trailer being in a parking lot in the 500 block of Park Street.

"Anyone who has information that may be able to assist police in the investigation is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at (306) 777-6500," RPS said. "Or, you can submit an anonymous tip through Regina Crime Stoppers at  or 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)."
