PRINCE ALBERT – Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) is investigating the circumstances of the arrest of a 25-year-old Prince Albert man after he was injured by a police dog.
Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) say that the man had tried evading police on his motorcycle. They say that at about 3 a.m. on Aug. 29, officers from PAPS saw a man driving his motorcycle in a dangerous manner in the 400 block of River Street East. When police tried stopping him, he tried to evade them.
The man abandoned his motorcycle in the 200 block of Macdowall Crescent and tried fleeing on foot. With the help of the Canine Unit, officers found him in the 100 block of Macdowall Crescent. He was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest, mischief, breach of a release order, breach of probation, and breach of a recognizance.
He was taken to Victoria Hospital to be treated for injuries from a dog bite and later released into police custody.
PAPS say they are fully cooperating with SIRT in their investigation.
