Suspect in police operation appears in Regina court

Court hears co-accused charged with death threats, forcible confinement, and robbery.

REGINA – A co-accused in a frightening scene that led police to close a portion of Retallack Street back in April appeared in Regina Provincial Court.

Jessica Cyr, 33, was one of two people involved in an event where they allegedly held people against their will and robbed them.

According to a previous report, police blocked off a section of the 1200 block of Retallack Street on April 21. They were asking pedestrians and motorists to avoid the area, and for people who lived there to “shelter in place.”

As the operation concluded, RPS arrested Cyr and co-accused Owen Burhof, 36.

Judge M. L. Beaton read the charges Cyr is facing, which occurred between April 14 and 21. Cyr was charged with two count aggravated assault, confinement, and robbery; plus single counts discharge a firearm with intent to wound, uttering death threats, possession of a prohibited firearm (sawed off shotgun), possession of a loaded prohibited weapon (sawed off shotgun) without a license, and intent to discharge a firearm in a reckless manner.

The Crown is opposed to Cyr’s release, and she is seeking the assistance of Legal Aid for a future bail hearing.

Cyr’s next appearance on these and other charges is June 30.
